Nicolas Sarkozy, husband of music businesswoman Carla Bruni, wants to tax Google advertising income for clicks from French users. Some of the funds would then be passed to young people in the form of a card worth 200 euros ($290US) that could be used to download music from Apple and other outlets.

Sarkozy’s attack of corporations on the Internet is far reaching and will eventually affect every website that earns from a French click.

The French economy is in worse shape than Greece these days with the largest deficit spending in all of Europe, just edging above the Germans in spending more than they earn. Reaching out to the Internet Sarkozy hopes to fill French State coffers by plundering search giant Google’s vast earnings with double taxation. Sarkozy has hired many of his friends to find ways to tax advertising revenues in France even after they pay taxes in their home countries. You will be next.

Sarkozy has also been key in passing the most draconian music/video download law, drawing the ire of the EU justice department because there is no judicial oversight and the “guilty without recourse” law is an affront to freedom. Once anyone reports you, or you are seen downloading large amounts of data, no matter what it is, you will be targeted and are guilty without legal recourse. You must also continue paying for the connection you cannot use and have no way to restore your access.

At issue will be the double taxation, the ability of a foreign government to tax another nations sovereign corporations, and of course to get Google to account for the profits on its earnings for clicks on advertising. Google will have to disclose how much it makes and even to differentiate how much it makes on French clicks.
