Orwellian dreams come alive? It is anyone’s guess but the deal, as I am reading it now, seems to be that Yahoo is joining the Google Adsense affiliate network. This is probably the biggest set of sites that Google has signed on and Google is allowing them to break all the rules.
First showing other advertising networks on the same page as Google adsense ads? After that chunk of meat try this one; it seems that Yahoo can feed Adsense to its Yahoo ad network! So Yahoo will probably only feed the graphic ads and sooner or later Google will take that since it has no real delivery for graphics it seems. Google will also allow Yahoo to link to other sites they own without penalties
It is just astounding to see a search giant like Yahoo become a mere bag of shells, an empty vessel, a mere specter of it’s former self.
Anyone can see that search makes no money. Selling advertising does. When Yahoo paid $4 billion dollars for Broadcast.com I said it was absurdly overvalued. Yahoo did nothing with the asset. It was an advertising asset not a broadcast asset. Mark Cuban”s genius was finding the golden apple. He is a real avantrepreneur. The business was selling television-advertising time that Broadcast earned by doing webcasting to the few who could get it. He found a way to make money where none was made before. Yahoo let it die and laundered 4 billion out the door for nothing.
But that is not their only blunder and with Yang back in the seat they need a little Yin.
Building in special deals for his employees can hardly endear them as they watch their lifetime investment plunge in the market. How great can it be working at the once top search, then second search, now just another Google adsense affiliate website selling on website returns?
Imagine how to explain being a search engine when your hope is users click on the advertising not the search result – if they go to the result you make it so they click on your adverts there? Just another affiliate in the Google advertising web farm affiliate program – except with special privileges.
